New orchard advisor for Merced County hired
Cameron Zuber is a new Orchard Crops Farm Advisor for Merced and Madera counties. He will cover all deciduous orchard crops for Merced county, not including pistachios and figs. He will also cover walnuts for Madera county. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California (UC), Davis and a master’s degree from UC Merced. He started working for UC Cooperative Extension as a staff researcher in 2016 and transitioned to a farm advisor in 2022. In his education and professional career, he has worked in understanding environmental and agricultural systems and their interactions with people, society, and governance. Specifically with orchard crops, he has worked on fumigant and other soil pest controls; rootstocks and scion varietals; irrigation and water management; soil, water, and air interactions; and cultural practices relating to tree spacing, flood irrigation for groundwater recharge, and whole orchard recycling.
